How to use PDF Compressor

  1. Open PDF Compressor; the shared PDF workspace starts on Compress.
  2. Choose one unsigned, unencrypted PDF and a lossless preset.
  3. Review the sanitization and temporary-upload disclosure, then explicitly submit the private worker job.
  4. Compare actual original and output sizes. Download the sanitized result if useful; clear the completed job when finished.

A practical example

Recompress uncompressed PDF streams and compare the resulting size.

How it works

pikepdf compress_streams, recompress_flate and object streams; preserve page count, reopen/validate and compare bytes.

Limits and assumptions

One unsigned, unencrypted PDF up to 10 MiB and 200 pages; output up to 30 MiB. Structural lossless compression only; no image downsampling, so scans may not shrink. Active content, annotations, forms, attachments and metadata removed. A larger sanitized result is disclosed, never presented as successful size reduction.

Frequently asked questions

What does PDF Compressor help with?

A PDF compressor can optimize document structure or reduce embedded image quality, and those are different operations. Mayexa's compressor uses structural, lossless processing rather than scan-image downsampling. Server compression is currently disabled on the live deployment, so this guide explains its scope without promising an available upload workflow.

What should I check before relying on the result?

The current workspace exposes separate browser-local conversion tasks, but those should not be confused with the disabled server compression service. Signed or encrypted PDFs are not supported for editing. Sanitization removes active content and other unsupported objects; it is not a digital-signature preservation service. Do not use a crop or a rendered preview as evidence of secure redaction.

Do I need a Mayexa account?

No Mayexa account is required. Review the workspace's processing labels and limits before entering data.

Will every PDF get smaller?

No. Lossless stream and object compression cannot guarantee savings, especially for image-heavy scans. The tool reports actual byte sizes and clearly identifies a result that is not smaller.

Are images downsampled?

No. This compression preserves image resolution. Maximum additionally recompresses Flate streams; neither preset is an image-quality or lossy downsampling control.

What happens to uploaded files?

Inputs are deleted after processing or failure. Outputs expire after one hour with periodic cleanup, or Clear removes a completed job immediately. Active content, annotations, forms, attachments and metadata are removed; signed/encrypted inputs are refused.
