Quick answer: A word counter measures draft length, while a character counter helps with limits expressed in characters. Mayexa shows both, including a non-whitespace count, selected-passage totals and reading or speaking estimates. These describe text length rather than judging writing quality.

Understand the method before choosing an action
Different platforms may count Unicode differently. A visible emoji can contain multiple code points, and combining marks can belong to one visible character. The counter uses browser segmentation where available; a publishing platform's UTF-16 or weighted limit may therefore differ from the visible-character total.
A practical example to work through
Paste a short introduction, select only the opening paragraph, and compare its totals with the whole draft. For a 260-word talk at an assumed 130 words per minute, the simple speaking estimate is two minutes. Change the pace to reflect your delivery and leave time for pauses, demonstrations and questions.
Use the Mayexa workspace
- Type, paste or import plain UTF-8 TXT/Markdown text. Counts update locally after a short typing pause.
- Select a passage for separate counts. Optionally set a word/character goal and adjust reading/speaking pace or segmentation language.
- Inspect repeated words or 2/3-word phrases; common English words can be hidden. Length indicators describe structure, not writing quality.
- Copy or download your draft or count report. Clear text when finished; one-step restore lasts until the next edit. Nothing is automatically saved.
Limits, privacy and interpretation
Import plain UTF-8 TXT or Markdown within the 1 MiB limit. Phrase frequency can reveal repeated wording, but it is not a keyword-density target. Reading time is an adjustable assumption, not measured reader behavior. No grammar, plagiarism or AI-detection score is provided, and drafts are not automatically saved.
No Mayexa account is required. Review the workspace's processing labels and limits before entering data.
